Don't call the ambulance!

Today there was a story out of Boston Mass. that is focusing attention on a woman that was seriously injured on a Boston subway platform.

Her leg got trapped in-between the train and the platform causing a massive gash to the bone.

Once she was freed, she begged everyone that help save her to NOT call the ambulance, even though she was in very bad shape.

She explained to all the onlookers that "Ambulances cost too much money" and that she does not have the money for an ambulance ( a ride to the ER in an ambulance can run anywhere from $1,000 - $2,000 ).

This sad situation brings to light the immense cost of health care in this country. We are now at the point in our nation that some may choose death over the immense burden placed on them & their families from our health care system. It can often times be cheaper to just die. How sad is that?

And if you think this is a "one off" crazy story...you'd be VERY,VERY wrong. I personally know people that should of taken ambulance rides to the hospital but either drove themselves ....or had someone else drive them in their car.

Same for sicknesses too. I know many people ( some even in my family ) that are not poor but are not rich either...and had to put off seeing a doctor for various health concerns due to lack of cash or insurance.

The leading cause of personal bankruptcy is medical bills and that's WITH insurance.

Ladies and gentlemen we have a huge problem. It would be one thing if our country had no money. It be one thing if we didn't give BILLIONS to other countries.

But when the U.S. has plenty of money to give to other countries and some how can't seem to come up with money for it's own people - WE HAVE A PROBLEM.

No one in the USA should have to make a decision between a grave injury and maybe not taking an ambulance due to cost.

It's a sad day in the USA when people have to think possible death is a more cost effective option than living due to an injury.
